Yet right now is the best time ever to own an iPod. Over the years, it has changed shape (think of the square nano and the stamp-like shuffle), and seen siblings come and go most notably the iPod mini, the regular player's first spin-off product. The classic may still bear a passing resemblance to the original hard-disk based, mono-screen player unveiled in autumn 2001, but it has been joined by the iPod touch, with its full-face touchscreen, the diminutive shuffle, which is barely any larger than a stick of chewing gum, and the nano, which despite its size packs a pretty competent video camera. Over that time, it has changed almost beyond recognition. So iconic is it right now that the term '¡Pod' is used almost as a replacement for the word 'media player'. The world's best-selling digital music player has been on sale for almost 10 years now, and in that time it has come to dominate the portable media player market. I usually download what I want onto my computer or laptop, then just copy the mp3 file across. I do not have an Apple account and all the songs and radio plays have been downloaded using other methods, ie not by buying them from an Apple account. I've tried Googling but nothing really fits the problems I have. So basically I cannot see how I can use the iPod as I can't add my own stuff. I cannot play them through iTunes, nor add to or delete any of them. ITunes shows the iPod is connected and all the folders and songs etc, but they are all greyed out. ![]() The problem is when I connect it to the computer. She has sadly died and now I've inherited her more modern version which works fine in itself. Years back a friend gave me her old iPod and it connected and worked fine when using iTunes to add or remove songs. ![]()
